Is ChatMate really free to use?

Creating the account is free and the 125 welcome coins are free as well, so your first 1v1 video calls cost you nothing. No card is needed to sign up. Coins are the in-app currency in ChatMate for extra features. When the welcome batch runs out, you don't have to worry since there's plenty of action available for free too. Coin Packs are one-off purchases rather than a subscription, so nothing renews unless you set it up that way. If you never buy anything, your account will still work.

How is a 1v1 chat different from a group room?

A group room has an audience. Several people watch the same stream, the chat scrolls past, and attention is split between everyone in it. A 1 on 1 chat has exactly two people and no viewers. That changes how the conversation goes. There is no performing for a crowd and no waiting your turn, so things get direct much faster. It is also easier to leave, because ending a 1v1 call takes one tap and nobody sees you do it.

Do I need a webcam or an app to start?

You need a camera to be seen, but you do not need one to start. You can join with your camera off, talk, and switch it on later or not at all. Plenty of people begin that way. Your browser will ask for camera and microphone access the first time you start a call, and you can allow or block either one. No download is required either. The site runs in a normal browser, on a phone or a laptop. There is an optional app if you would rather have notifications and a home screen icon. If your video stutters or the sound drops out, the connection is usually the cause rather than the call. A quick check on Speedtest or Fast.com tells you where you stand. The free coins work the same on both.

How does matching work, and can I choose?

The tiles on this page show who is live at that moment, so you can pick a person and open a call directly. If you would rather not choose, start a random match and the site connects you to the next available adult. Random tends to be quicker at busy hours. Either way you land in the same place, a private call with one other person. No algorithm decides your type for you.

What if the person is not what I wanted?

End the call. That is the whole process. There is no goodbye to write, no rating to leave, and the other person is not told why. You land back on the matching screen and the next call is a tap away. If someone crossed a line rather than simply not clicking, use block or report. A quiet exit tells moderation nothing. A report reaches a human. A block stays in place until you lift it.
